Here are the steps I did to install Windows XP on Linux using VirtualBox:
If VirtualBox is not already installed on your system: have a look at this article
Start VirtualBox
Click on "New"
Click on "Next"
choose a name for your VM and select "Windows XP" as operating system
Click on "Next"
click on "New"
Click on "Next"
Choose "Fixed-size image". Usually dynamically expanding images are much slower. If you don't expect to have a lot of I/O you can also choose this option. Then click "Next"
Enter name and size and click "Next".
Click "Finish"
I know, it will take a while...
Click "Next"
Click "Finish"
Select your Virtual Machine (on the left) and click on CD/DVD-ROM
Put your MIcrosoft Windows XP installation CD/DVD in your hosts CD drive and mount it to install Windows from a CD/DVD. Click on "OK" and then start the Virtual Machine.
Thats it!
